It’s the fashionista’s version of finding the Holy Grail – a lipstick that actually lasts through a night-out or an entire meeting without requiring multiple touchups, fading into oblivion or devolving into uneven patches. This weekend, I wore one of the new Burberry Beauty lipsticks (voluntary disclosure: it was bought simply because I am a sucker for gorgeous packaging) and it lasted through an entire Chinese meal (complete with soup), two drinks, multiple air kisses and four hours of almost non-stop chattering. Added bonus? It had a light, emollient texture that felt comfortable and did not even dry out my lips one bit! All of which is quite a miracle for someone whose lips can’t hold onto even the most credibly certified “long wearing” lipsticks for more than an hour. I won’t go as far as to say that the colour didn’t budge an iota – it did “gentle down” a bit, ending up at about 70% of its initial brightness at the end of the night. Which, trust me, was far more than good enough!
To give you a little more insight into Burberry Beauty while we are on the subject, the line is composed of 96 products, including foundations (a fluid and a powder), mascara, finishing powder, bronzer, lip sticks, glosses, liners and eyeshadows. To use Christopher Bailey’s words, “Burberry Beauty reflects the natural style and carefree attitude of our emblematic trench coat.” The palette is replete with decidedly British colors (“we were inspired by English skies”) and sleek packaging (square metallic cases etched with the signature plaid motif), while the make-up itself has a light texture that gives definition without being overpowering. The cases come with a magnetic clasp, which ensures that the products won’t open and spill in your handbag.
To sum it up: After spending a few days playing with the goodies, my overall impression is that (like the advert) these products are perfect for creating a flawlessly polished “no makeup” look, or one that adds colour very judiciously. Just right for summer, I would say!
Next stop: Tom Ford Beauty. Stand back for the testing.
