Unless you’ve been off exploring a deep, dark cave somewhere, chances are that you know about the collaboration between fashion kaiser Karl Lagerfeld and legendary Japanese brand Shu Uemura to create a 17-piece makeup line. At the centre of it all is the Mon Shu Girl – the black-bobbed, ruby-eyed, Uma Thurman-meets-Manga character that Lagerfeld sketched to symbolise the line’s irreverent “Eastern, mysterious, modern” aesthetic. ”Mon Shu” is word play on the French endearment “mon chou” and Shu Uemura, basically translating as “I love you, Shu Uemura”. Yes! You know this. But there is a lot more that you don’t know.
For instance, did you know that:
1. Mon Shu has a marked preference for sushi.
2. She likes watching cute boys (don’t we all?).
3. She loves playing the guitar.
4. Her red eyes evoke the iconic colour of Shu Uemura as well as Japanese culture.
5. Her blood type is ‘O’.
This is not superfluous – in fact, this level of detail and the immensity of the collection itself is just a brief glimpse into the intricacies of Lagerfeld’s crazily creative mind! I am super-impressed. Are you?
