Had a lousy night? Or partied it away? Now, apologise to your skin

Your skin is paying the price for that all night party/work binge? Bring it back to life with a vigorous scrub that will whisk away dead cells and increase blood flow, banishing sluggishness and instantly brightening your complexion.

Then kick the recovery plan into high gear with a stimulating face mask – anything that contains peppermint, tea tree or citrus extracts will perk up your complexion instantly (personally, I can’t live without Lush’s Crash Course in Skin Care).

Follow with a facial spritzer (Both Evian and Vichy do great ones) to make you feel refreshed and invigorated. Also, keep drinking loads of water to plump up the skin and keep it well hydrated – the easiest way to bust puffiness and fine lines.

And when all else fails, cheat! Choose from among the slew of flash balms, which tighten the skin and add a layer of light reflecting moisture to create a rosy glow (try Clarins Beauty Flash Balm or MAC Strobe Cream).

Change of pace for Blair Waldorf (née Leighton Meester)

If you feel that Leighton Meester = Blair Waldorf in perpetuity, think again. These images from the former’s performance at TAO in Vegas last week reveal the gorgeous lady’s other side, one thats so much more chilled out than the Gossip Girls persona. Wonder what Blair would say to her altar ego’s writhing onstage in skinny jeans and dishevelled hair. We just say that lady, you rock the style change stakes!!

Traditional Woes

Classic dilemma: How to pull off traditional clothes without looking like you have just stepped off the boat from a far-off village? Yesterday, the answer was found on my dressing table, in the form of nude makeup colours that toned down the ensemble perfectly. Salvation came in the form of MAC’s Spice lip pencil, used for filling in the entire lip, followed by their Viva Glam V lipstick and lip gloss, bare eyes, with just a flick of bronze eye pencil from Lancome (Crayon Khol in Bronze). Don’t want to go the whole hog – pencil, lipstick, contour – way? I have found Guerlain’s new Rouge G lipstick in Rosy Brown works as the perfect one-stop solution, with saturated colour and gloss in one, fabulously mirrored compact carry-case that’s also perfect for touchups. This plus a little caramel-hued blush and mattified skin will make even the most fabulously over-the-top ethnic garments seem stylish – a lucky save!!

PS: Did you know that one MAC Spice lip pencil is sold every six seconds somewhere in the world??

Coveting Chanel

The new year brings with it Chanel’s latest collection, which celebrates the colour beige in all its various guises. It’s most exclusive incarnation is the Empreinte de Chanel palette – a luxurious silky and slightly pearly powder adapted to all skin tones. A harmony of rosewood, beige and brown tones to warm up the complexion and leave it incredibly luminous. At the center, the sparkling pearly gold double C stands out against a multitude of small colourful dots, a clever monochrome of warm shades. Applied preferably with a large brush, it can be worked in here and there to enhance certain parts of the face, such as the cheekbones and eyelids of the entire face for radiant complexion. I want!
