I don’t like summers one bit and the only things that get me through the blistering heat and the grimy humidity are wooden bowls filled to the overflowing with fresh salads, sparkling lemonades, icy white wines, crisp linen bed sheets infused with cooling vetiver, sandalwood body scrubs and loads of fragrant flowers.

For the last couple of years – much to Mr. TBG’s disgust – I have kept this terrible season at bay with all the above along with liberal splashes from his precious bottle of CK Eternity Aqua for Men, which is the perfect summer fragrance with it’s non-traditional elements that are a little fruity, a little gourmand and have a simple, clean and refreshing ozonic-woody character.

Thankfully, this year CK has released the women’s version of this summery scent called Eternity Aqua for Women – chilling it with pink lady apple, cucumber, apricot and white peony along with white flowers, jasmine, tiare, gardenia and magnolia. These are joined with sun-drenched woods, cedar and musk – it’s like grabbing a frosty can of pink lemonade right from the freezer and rubbing it over your skin.

The bottle itself is gorgeously evocative, with a gradient of deep blue and vibrant turquoise that cascades up the tall, slender column, bringing to mind a deep infinity pool with varying shades of cool blue. It brings to mind all the romance of summer – rain-soaked boardwalks, nights spent on darkened shores and clear, crisp mornings where it feels like you can take on anything.

But the truest strength of Eternity Aqua for Women lies in it’s balance: it’s neither too sweet, not another insipid scent classified under “aqueous”, “marine” or “sporty”. It’s confident without being pretentious, modern without being radical and has that decidedly clean, sophisticated, feminine air that is the signature of all of Calvin’s scents. To me, this feels like a classic in the making – fitting in perfectly for both white-top-and-jeans days and crisply suited power meetings!
