All hail the Chanel beauty cab!

chanel, taxi, cab, london, covent garden

On what has to be the world’s shortest trip ever to London yesterday (7 hours, counting time to-and-fro from the airport) I managed to spot not just one but two of the gorgeously eye-catching Chanel cabs that are stalking the city streets this month. Dressed up in the brand’s iconic nail polish and lipstick hues, these pretty-pretty-pretty Hackney Carriages come in a strictly limited edition of 25 and are loaded with beauty treats for the lucky passengers.

Yup! All you need to do is hail one of these Double-C emblazoned cabs, say “Chanel at Covent Garden” to the driver and receive a complimentary makeover or nail shape and paint, along with a £25 voucher to spend on your favourite Chanel make-up products on the day at the now-iconic Pop Up store. The offer runs from 3rd – 17th September 2012, so start looking out NOW! And if you nail the trip (bad pun – sorry!) do tell me about your experience so I can at least live the glam life vicariously!

Estee Lauder’s Jewelled Flag of Britain

Just back from London, skipped wishing Her Majesty the Queen (am sure she must be devastated but I have just this much time after all!) for the Diamond Jubilee, passed up on dear ol’ Kate & William and spent the entire three days SHOPPING!!!! How could I not, with all the super-gorgeous beauty treats up for grabs in honour of the Queen’s 60 years on the throne?

Still unpacking the bags but simply had to show you this ultra-scrumptious gold-plated solid perfume compact from Estee Lauder. It’s called Jewelled Flag of Britain, has been handcrafted by fine jewellers and decorated with 130 Swarovski Elements. Inside is one of my favourite Estee Lauder perfumes – Beautiful – which unveils a romantic blend of Queen-worthy notes like lily, cassis and tuberose (I have it on good authority that the latter is, in fact, one of Queen Elizabeth’s favourite florals).

The cost? £320. Yes, certainly not cheap but it’s really, really gorgeous and how many times does a Royal Jubilee come around anyway? If you want this royal souvenir, head over to Estee Lauder and buy it NOW! This one’s not going to stick around for long. I picked up the second-to-last piece at Harrods on Sunday, so am sure it’s sold out there by now!

Happy Birthday Big Ben!

Somewhere during all the hoopla of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, one of London’s oldest icons quietly turned 153-years-old on May 31st. I am talking about the Big Ben: The biggest four-faced, chiming clock in the world that’s one of the most recognizable structures in London and represents the city, just like the Eiffel Tower represents Paris.

But the beauty industry did not forget – and here are two gorgeous limited edition products that honour Big Ben’s marvellous legacy. Can you resist?

And now, here’s a run-down of some choice facts about everyone’s favourite bell. Bet you didn’t know all of this?

  • The great clock is wound by hand and is regulated by a stack of coins.
  • At the bottom of each clock face there are gold letters showing Latin text which translates “O Lord, keep safe our Queen Victoria the First”.
  • The first 61 meters of Clock Tower are made up of brickwork and stone cladding and the remainder of tower is made from cast iron.
  • The Tower leans slightly towards northwest, by 8.66 inches.
  • There are cells in the tower where Members of Parliament can be imprisoned for a breach of parliamentary privilege.
  • BBC Radio Four transmits the chimes of Big Ben live every night before the six o’clock news.

First Look: Molton Brown Londinium

Aged malt whisky in a perfume? Actually, come to think of it, it seems completely reasonable when you are talking about a fragrance that aims to distill the very essence of a city like London. Right?

Molton Brown, Londinium, Beauty, Perfume, Fragrance, London, Whiskey, Whisky, Olympics

Molton Brown’s Londinium (Latin for ‘London’), which is just making its debut as an ode to the Olympic Games, channels street style and royal parks, malt whisky on ice, the flash of coloured lining in a Savile Row suit… London at its playful, charismatic best. Besides the warm whisky notes, there is incense, myrrh, green oak moss, incense, wild juniper, zested bergamot and crisp berries – and in true Molton Brown style, the ingredients have been sourced from around the world.

It’s the perfect tribute from one of the world’s most iconic English brands (which actually started as a hair salon in London!) and I can’t wait to try it out. But it’s a limited edition so run, don’t walk – this one is definitely not going to stick around on the shelves for long!
