This seems to be the month for busting my own makeup beliefs. I have made no bones about not seeing the use for BB creams but the Bourjois BB Cream Foundation makes me think twice. Not surprisingly, it’s from Bourjois – a brand that somehow always puts me in the mind of dainty fairies spinning delicate dew-laden rose petals into magical lotions and potions. Of course, the reality is that Bourjois has got its state-of-the-art R&D lab and production facilities, which somehow continues to come up with slightly quirky and totally genius details that nobody has ever thought of before.
Anyways, I digress. Now, to me the entire point of a BB cream is that you should be able to throw it on while rushing out of the door and get medium-ish coverage and other stuff that you need on-the-go: like hydration (or oil control) and sun protection. After all, if you have the time to buff, polish and layer your BB cream, you might as well stick to your normal moisturiser, serum, sunscreen and foundation. Or use a tinted moisturiser. Right? So what I would be looking from a BB cream is ease-of-application, easy blendability, staying power and the ability to oil-check my skin. Which is exactly what Bourjois BB Cream Foundation delivers: skin smoothing action, balancing and evening the skin tone, providing long-lasting hydration and getting rid of shine. Plus, it has a healthy dose of SPF20.
The texture itself deserves a thumbs up: buttery smooth and really hydrating, without being heavy or greasy. The Bourjois BB Cream Foundation blends superbly, simply melting into the skin. The matte finish is just the right side of matte, without looking flat and cakey, so the skin still looks luminous. I’d say it gives skin a sheen rather than a full-on glow.
The coverage is impressive: it really feels (and looks) like you have nothing on and is extremely buildable. I would say the Bourjois BB Cream Foundation offers medium coverage – it doesn’t cover every single thing but is great for creating an even finish, toning down redness and minimising pores. Plus, to be fair, it covers most acne scars really well as well. Staying power is quite good, it lasts over 8 hours and it fades nicely in terms that it doesn’t get ugly patchy and keeps oiliness any at bay (at least with my skin).
Then there is the fact that Bourjois has captured BB technology and put it firmly into a slim, handbag-friendly compact, which is one of those total duh! moments that I love about Bourjois. After all, it stands to reason that a BB cream should be portable and on-hand for quick touchups. The huge mirror swivels 360° degrees, which means you can position it to face pretty much any direction. You can even position it to face upwards at the perfect angle, so you can look down into the mirror whilst applying tricky eyeliner or putting in contact lenses (maybe not the point for its inclusion with a BB cream but I love when my products multitask).
If there is one suggestion I would like to make to Bourjois for the BB Cream Foundation, it’s to step up the sponge. Seems a tad flimsy to me at the moment… though the texture is velvety enough to work well with fingers alone.
Have any of you tried the Bourjois BB Cream Foundation yet?
