Holding off product reviews for way too long is just one of the ways in which I am constantly frustrating PR people. Others being relegating 90% of the things they send me into the reject can and not turning up for events. The former because the beauty industry is already over-saturated and I don’t think you need to put more sub-par products out there. The latter because I am constantly travelling and am likely to be in Grasse when there’s an event in NYC, or in Sri Lanka when LA beckons.
Anyway, back to the main point – I don’t think it’s possible to give an honest, unfiltered review of a skincare product unless you have tested it for at least a month – considering one skin cycle is 28 days, which is the least that you will need to see real results.
In that vein, it’s finally time to talk to you about Bynacht’s Hypercharged Glass Skin Serum, which has been sitting on my desk for almost 2 months now.
Bynacht is a relatively new skincare brand that caught my eye because it’s founded on two of my favorite things: Sleep. And skincare. Essentially skincare during the sleeping hours, when our skin is most receptive to beauty ingredients.
It’s all about…
For the Hypercharged Glass Skin Serum, this German brand brings out one of skin’s favorite allies – hyaluronic acid, in EIGHT different molecular weights. Why does this matter?
As you know, hyaluronic acid (which occurs naturally in the body but tends to decline with age and environmental damage) is nature’s favourite humectant. It can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water – one tiny gram can actually hold up to SIX litres of water!
When used in topical skincare, hyaluronic acid helps draw and hold moisture into the skin, keeping it hydrated. And hydrated skin is smooth, supple, plump, glowing, happy skin. It also shows fewer fine lines and wrinkles, which is the reason this acid is considered to be anti-ageing.
Why do you need different weights of hyaluronic acid?
But there are A LOT of hyaluronic acid based products out there. What makes Bynacht special?
First, as I said earlier, the Hypercharged Glass Skin Serum has eight different weights of hyaluronic acid. This helps it deliver the ingredient to different levels of the skin. Higher molecular weights are larger and remain on the skin’s surface, where they deliver the fastest results, which are however short lived. Lower molecular weights can penetrate to deeper layers, where they sustain the cells’ inherent moisture content for a longer lasting effect.
Bottomline: This serum delivers both instant and long lasting results, which is what makes it a deep cut above the rest in my book.
There’s more!
Then there is the fact that hyaluronic acid needs a seal to lock in the moisture effectively – else the humectant may just become counter-productive, drawing moisture OUT of the skin’s deeper layers in dry weather conditions. That’s why most hyaluronic acid products require you to seal it in with an occlusive. Bynacht’s Hypercharged Glass Skin Serum, on the other hand, already has the occlusives built into the formula to solve this issue.
And then there are the other ingredients: apple extract (vitamin-rich, lifts the skin), Iceland moss cell extract (anti-oxidant, anti-aging, boosts skin repair processes), vine leaves extract (fights pigmentation), lactobacillus portulak ferment extract (anti-inflammatory), ceramides (strengthens skin’s natural barrier), collagen (keeps skin firm and lifted), vitamin C tetraisoderivate (stimulates collagen), and olive leaf extract (antioxidant, soothes away pigmentation). To mention a few. The ingredient label makes for interesting reading, especially considering how near the top the most active ingredients appear – which is a sign of their potency.
How does the Bynacht Hypercharged Skin Serum feel? And does it deliver?
In terms of application, the serum feels like a very light jelly and has a slightly earthy smell. Testimony to the lack of filler ingredients and artificial fragrance, which I love! It dries down in minute, leaving behind a very slightly tacky feel on the skin. Touch your skin and you’ll know it’s there even though you can’t feel it otherwise. The weighty glass bottle feels super-luxe in its own right and has solid environmental cred.
I have been using it for a little more than a month now and my skin really shows the difference. It’s smooth and plump, with none of the dehydration patches and fine lines that winter usually brings along. Even my makeup tends to go on smoothly, rather than getting flaky. Though it’s an expensive investment, so if you want to bring it out for the times when your skin is actually feeling parched, it will still stand you in good stead. And last longer – that’s what I intend to do with the next bottle (yes, I am restocking!).
And I am also eyeing the brand’s Iconic Reborn Radiant Serum and Moonlit Meadows Moisturiser (doesn’t that last one sound divine?). Because this is a brand that’s hardworking, transparent and innovative – a beauty unicorn!
