Apple cider vinegar, hot water with lemon, ginger tea, cinnamon, grapefruit juice, green smoothie… yes, we all want to start the day on a healthy note but somehow there’s too little morning-time to pack in everything. I tried it for a couple of weeks but even keeping just a half-hour interval between all the healthy stuff meant my actual breakfast would not end up happening before 11 am. And that’s just too long to wait for an egg white omelette, right?
Time then to brainstorm with a few hardcore nutritionists who all seem to concur that you can combine a lot of goodness into one healthy “shot” instead of having 5 different drinks. Here is our efficient (and delicious) Morning Elixir that breaks up toxins, improves acne, balances pH levels, reduces bloating, steps up the metabolism (hello shrinking waistline), soothes chronic inflammation, lowers cholesterol, balances blood sugar, tackles digestive issues, boosts energy, and makes you look and feel better. Yup, it’s pretty magical. And you don’t even need to add powdered unicorn wings or chant a spell – everything is easily available off the kitchen shelf.
Ingredients
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar (it has to be raw, unfiltered, with the mother) Juice from 1 lemon 1-2 ounces of grapefruit juice (optional) 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper 1-2 tbsp raw honey (optional) 1 tsp cinnamon powder 1 tsp turmeric powder 1/2 inch piece of ginger hot water (you can dilute this as strong or weak as you prefer)How-to
Put everything in a mug, then top up with boiling water and let it all steep for a few minutes. When the water is cool enough to drink, give one final stir and down the “shot”. Have it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
PS: I mix all the spices into individual portion size packages and pop them into the fridge. Then it’s just a question of pouring them into a mug, adding the apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, honey and water… voila, you are done!
