With the hundreds of beauty products launching every month, it’s not easy to know exactly which serum, nail polish or perfume deserves your hard earned cash. Solution? Let’s take the guesswork out of beauty shopping with a short list of the-top-10-Beauty-Gypsy-approved absolute must-haves.
Lancôme Visionnaire Advanced Eye Contour Perfecting Corrector, $60
Lancôme’s Visionnaire Advanced Eye Contour Perfecting Corrector is the first eye cream to incorporate the LR2412 molecule. Which, of course, means nothing to me, though the press release elaborates that it’s “… capable of fundamentally recreating exceptionally beautiful skin and crowned with almost 100 international awards. Protected by 20 patents, LR 2412 is the result of 12 years’ research.” What I can understand from all the science-speak is that this eye cream also contains caffeine, which has consistently shown good results for brightening and smoothening the under-eye area (goodbye dark circles and fine lines!). I am also loving the soft silicone applicator, which makes it super-easy to apply this thick cream. And it’s seriously concentrated, so one tube will last you a long time!
L’Occitane Shea Butter Subtle Violet Body Cream, $22
If you need a decent excuse to buy yet more of L’Occitane’s luscious shea butter, any dollars spent on the limited edition Subtle Violet Body Cream help the women of Burkina Faso in West Africa, who are responsible for the production and sourcing of this multifaceted ingredient. Even the tins are inspired by the beaded necklaces of Burkina Faso. Now, that’s how I like my skincare… sexy and sustainable!
Bliss Triple Oxygen Ex-glow-sion Moisturizer, $64
Cold weather and dry skin… they go hand-in-hand for most of us. Bliss Spa has long been providing the solution with it’s luscious oxygen facials but not all of us can keep wandering in and out of NYC for this purpose. That’s why I am so excited about the Bliss Triple Oxygen Ex-glow-sion Moisturizer, which is packed with microalgae, vitamin E, vitamin C and triple oxygen to brighten and rehydrate the complexion overnight. Winter, bring it on now!
Shu Uemura Takashi Murakami Collection, $40 onwards
Obsessed with all things makeup and anime? Takashi Murakami’s new collaboration with Shu Uemura will hold you in its thrall. The 19-piece limited edition collection is inspired by the Japanese artist’s new animation project, The 6 Heart Princesses, which chronicles the evolution of the “majokkos” (magical girls) into superwomen. Rooted in otaku culture, the animation series and the makeup collection are meant to symbolize the inner light and darkness every woman holds inside. And the pink and black colors of the packaging represent that duality. Deep stuff!
Guerlain’s newest Perfumed Shimmer Powder falls squarely in the category of I-don’t-care-what-this-does or how-well-it-does-anything, I need to have it NOW. Part of the Crazy Paris Holiday Collection, which pays homage to the dazzling city’s iconic lights, it’s neon-and-black wardrobe is super-glam, super-playful and super-charming. And that’s just the outside! Squeeze the neon pink bulb and you get a glimmering veil of loose light powder that’s scented with flirtatious notes of black cherry, almond, Bulgarian rose and black teas – perfect for highlighting the hair, face, shoulders and décolleté. Captivating!
RiRi Hearts MAC, $16.50 onwards
Attention ladies (of the fun ‘n fearless kind): you can now own the line of cocoa eyeshadow and daring lipstick colors that Rihanna has been playing with on Instagram since forever! But you’ll want to move fast… if the summer collection is any indication, Fall will sell out faster than RiRi changes her hair!
Revlon by Marchesa 3D Jewel Nail Appliqués, $14
This has to be one of the most hotly anticipated beauty collaborations of all times: couture brand Marchesa with drugstore Revlon, for a series of collections that are taking our breath away. Up first are 3-D nail strips inspired by Marchesa’s Fall/Winter 2013 gown. There are 6 designs, each more intricately detailed than the next. Graphic swirls, bejeweled finger tips and baroque glamour – your nails just got promoted to the front row!
The ridiculously glamorous tin of scented body balm that’s Bathina has been a constant on my vanity since I was 17-years-old. It’s now joined by this misting body oil that’s soft, pretty and smells like a garden washed by dew drops early in the morning. And there’s more to the Bathina Misting Body Oil than just the fragrance: dollops of sweet almond oil, olive fruit, avocado oil and Vitamin E make it an excellent hydrator that absorbs within seconds, with hardly any rubbing in required. I wouldn’t really use it as a massage oil (not slippery enough) but this fine mist is perfect for give skin a sparkling boost that ups your oomph factor by a few million notches.
Karl Lagerfeld Scented Kandles, $60
Thankfully, Lagerfeld’s first personal line of candles is not Choupette-scented or caters exclusively to felines (so I am not a cat lover, lynch me!). And they are not super-artsy or other kinds of nonsensical (which is something I sort of expect from the man who designs glasses that balance ugly faces!). In fact, I am totally in love with the sleek, Karl-embossed wafts of feminine Oud & Bois de Santal, woodsy Figue & Poivre Noire and luxe New Age Essence Rare. Expect them to be on constant rotation through the coming weeks!
The Clarisonic Pedi Sonic Foot Transformation, $199
This one’s perfect for those
super-lazy super-busy days when your feet need a clean up but you are too lazy tied-up to visit the pedicurist. The Clarisonic Pedi Sonic Foot Transformation fuses its cult sonic technology with an aluminum disc to smooth away dry, rough patches on our feet. The addition of a buffing brush, an exfoliating treatment, a buffing treatment and a hydrating balm means goodbye tired soles. Hello shiny, pretty feet.
