The Beauty Gypsy Review: Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate

As a beauty editor, I am constantly bombarded with more skincare products than I have facial real estate to try! 

Hence, I end up not using my personal favorites most of the time to go through all the new stuff sitting on my desk, waiting to be reviewed. 

Not complaining—I love discovering new products. But sometimes, my skin craves the comfort of an old buddy—one that’s worked over and over again.

And Lancôme’s Advanced Génifique Serum has been on that very short list for what seems like forever. 

So, this time, when my skin broke down under stress, change of weather, and tonnes of comfort food, out came the Lancôme Génifique serum. 

Two weeks later, I am again reminded of why I have loved this amphora-shaped glass bottle so much over the past decade.

The first Lancome Genifique serum was launched in 2009 and has gone through multiple iterations and 197 formulation trials in keeping with advancing skincare science.

Since then, over 15 million bottles of Génifique have been sold worldwide!

Why do I love this one serum so much? Let me count the ways.

First, obviously, are the ingredients—the Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate (yes, the full name is quite a mouthful) is packed with antioxidants like vitamin C to fade hyperpigmentation and boost collagen production, hyaluronic acid to boost hydration and, of course, the star ingredient — 10% Bifidus Prebiotic, aka Bifida Ferment Lysate.

Bifidus Prebiotic

Bifidus Prebiotic, also known as bifida ferment lysate, is a probiotic derived from a specific type of yeast obtained by the fermentation of Bifida bacteria. 

Now, while you may want to avoid yeast and bacteria in your general life, they play a critical role in skincare.

Bifidus strengthens the skin barrier to protect against environmental damage—like smoke and pollution—and helps soothe sensitive skin. 

It can also help prevent damage from external stressors like sun exposure and pollution, soothe sensitive skin, and strengthen the skin’s barrier. It makes the skin firmer, healthier, and more resilient, thereby working against premature aging at the cellular levels. And yes, there are studies to prove its efficacy.

Hyaluronic Acid

Another hero ingredient in Lancome Genifique is hyaluronic acid (Sodium Hyaluronate). This naturally occurring substance can retain a tremendous amount of moisture—up to 1,000 times its weight in water!

I have been using the Lancôme Advanced Genifique serum for five weeks, and my skin feels like it snuck away to a spa resort without taking me along.

I kept this skincare diary during the period to capture my experience, providing a window into the transformative power of this serum.
