I have been working with the beauty industry for over 15 years now β both in print and online (read more on the About Me page) β and there’s nothing else that I would rather be doing.
So, if you have a beauty project that you wish to discuss, please contact me on anubha@anubhacharan.com.

Good afternoon Beauty Gypsy!
What an inspiring blog! I, too, have had thyroid trouble and struggled with appearance because of it. I found makeup to be an outlet!
What I would like to ask for is a little advice. I see that you’ve worked with big beauty magazines as an editorial manager. Did you study journalism? I am currently (or hopefully) in school to be a beauty journalist. My major is Communications. I also am a licensed makeup artist and esthetician. It is hard because being young, no one wants to take a chance on me. But my ultimate dream job would be to work for Elle, Marie Claire or Vogue. Do you have any advice for someone in my situation?
Thanks,
Alexis
anubha says
Hi Alexis, thanks for the complements π Yes, I did do my Masters in Journalism and Media Studies but honestly, I learnt far more on the job than I ever did in University. I think you are in a great position, with on-hand experience in makeup. The best bet would be to start by offering your services gratis to local magazines and then move to national glossies as your portfolio expands. You could also intern at a fashion or lifestyle publication β it’s tough work but pays huge dividends!
LIFE ABOVE ZERO says
I just looooove your website, dear! Fashion and style have become major inspiration for many women who for a long time ere feeling insecure. These days, thank God, it is much easier to look beautiful and, consequently, feel confident.
Inner beauty is important, of course, so all this glam does not mean anything without spiritual “food”.
Let me ask you a question since you have experience in this. I feel like I have designer’s talent sitting in me, but I do not know anybody who would be able to help me take it to another level (I’m a grad student in Public Administration and I live a normal life). How do I come out of this boring life where I cannot fulfill my potential? In particular, I feel like I can come up with something new in fashion and overall designs for women (especially accessories).
Thanks!!
anubha says
First of all, thank you for the kind words :)) And I def think you should try out your hand at fashion if that’s what your heart desires. I know it’s a tough leap but you will always regret it if you don’t do it. A lot of designers I know started off in a very, very small way by designing and stitching clothes for themselves and their friends. These functioned pretty effectively as walking portfolios and gradually they started getting orders from actual clients. Don’t know if this will work for you but it’s one way to approach the situation.

I absolutely love your website! Best beauty one I’ve ever visited!
I’d love to guest post for you. I have two blogs, neither particularly on beauty, but I’m VERY interested in it as a topic, and love writing.
So, if you need an article written, please do email me: jackskellington1329@gmail.com
Thank you π

Dear Beauty Gipsy:
I am currently going through the trials and tribulations of losing weight. Not only the struggles of losing weight on a daily basis but trying to continue my “good habits” for the holidays!! I have always struggled with my weight, my self-confidence, and anything else that comes with that territory. I love writing and it is my passion!!! I know that the main focus is on beauty tips, but would you be willing to take a chance on REAL weight loss advice. I have only been working my booty off for two weeks but its a struggle and I know if I can do it I can help others through the process. I would love the chance to work with you and find the real food and exercises that do and do not work. I think this could be a great opportunity for everyone even the women who are the size they want to be but just need to eat better!!
Let me know what you think!!
