As you can see from my feed, when life gets tough, I tend to go look for some flowers. And right now, when my skin has been crying out for mercy (hello changing weather, stress, travelling, lack of sleep, and a diet consisting almost solely of junk food!), I have been loving the new Rose Deep Hydration Sleeping Mask from Fresh.
Given its name, I am sure you can guess that this new launch is packed full of rose extracts – Rosa Damascena, in particular, which is present in the form of Rosa Damascena Flower Water, Rosa Damascena Flower Extract and Rosa Damascena Flower Oil.
Rosa Damascena, or the Damask Rose, is far more than a perfumery favorite. The delicate petals are packed with antioxidants, which help heal skin and reduce inflammation. Plus, they have superb antiseptic and antibacterial properties, making them ideal for acne-prone complexions.
Back to Fresh, this overnight mask comes in two parts. First, there’s the cooling, amber-colored gel that’s packed with rose extracts and hyaluronic acid to calm and plump up the complexion, while rebuilding the skin barrier.
The second layer of cream then locks in the moisture with time release technology to ensure that all those skin soothing and plumping ingredients continue to put in work all night long for maximum effect.
The first time I used it was on a day when my skin was seriously cranky – red, itchy and puffy. I had to keep piling on the makeup to cover it all up. Next morning, my complexion had calmed down enough that I didn’t need to cake on the concealer. And I also did not feel like scratching my face off for a change!
After a fortnight of using it twice weekly, my skin feels much softer and plumper, with the redness having faded into oblivion. This is the only major change in my routine, so I know that this mask definitely works.
And you don’t have to wait for more than half a minute between both layers, so that’s my exhausted self all sorted out pretty effortlessly. The mask also sinks in quickly, with no pilling or stickiness, as long as you apply the right amount. The first time ‘round, I scooped out too much and then had to spend almost five minutes massaging it all in. Think of it as a moisturiser, rather than a mask, and then you will get this part right.
A warning, though, for those who don’t love the smell of roses: This is a rose-based mask and it definitely smells like one! I love roses, so that’s not a problem for me but you may want to do a sniff test first.
Also, the two parts WILL seep into each other somewhat, which is the thing I hate about split-container jars. It’s also difficult to travel with, since I am constantly terrified about spillage.
All-in-all, love the mask but am not so fond of the packaging. Have you tried it yet? What’s your take on Fresh?
